{"componentChunkName":"component---src-templates-news-js","path":"/news/euroseeds-welcomes-council-adoption-of-ngt-trilogue-agreement-and-calls-on-european-parliament-to-follow/","result":{"data":{"wordpressWpNews":{"title":"Euroseeds welcomes Council adoption of NGT trilogue agreement and calls on European Parliament to follow","content":"\n<p>Euroseeds welcomes the formal adoption by Member States of the Council’s first reading position on the new Regulation on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs), confirming the trilogue compromise text agreed with the European Parliament in December last year.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision marks a key step forward in the legislative process and paves the way for its final conclusion, pending confirmation of the compromise text by the European Parliament’s Environment Committee and plenary in the coming weeks.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ministers, meeting in the Foreign Affairs Council, followed the recommendation of COREPER of 15 April and adopted the compromise text as an “A point” on 21 April 2026.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>“This is another milestone for plant breeding innovation in and for Europe,” said <strong>Garlich von Essen, Secretary General and CEO of Euroseeds</strong>. “We are nearing the finish line of a long race for more technology openness, competitiveness and productivity in European agriculture.”</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Euroseeds now looks forward to the European Parliament’s final votes, first in the Environment Committee and subsequently in plenary, which would conclude the legislative procedure.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>“We are confident that the compromise reached in trilogue will continue to be honoured by the European Parliament. Europe will then be ready to move forward with this important innovation framework,” von Essen added, noting that implementing and delegated acts will still be required.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside the Council’s decision, the European Commission issued a formal declaration addressing key elements of the compromise related to intellectual property protection and access to innovation under fair conditions.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Euroseeds will continue to engage constructively with stakeholders and regulators to ensure these provisions are effectively implemented and to unlock the full potential of
