The Agricultural Crop Licensing Platform (ACLP) was officially launched on 19 January 2023 by 9 plant breeding companies, who are all members of Euroseeds as well.
Euroseeds welcomes this initiative and congratulates the founding members of the ACLP for having established a common, industry-led platform to facilitate access to patent-protected inventions. As it is stated in the press release, ”the ACLP is designed to make access to and use of patented traits simpler and easier, as well as provide more legal certainty for its members”.
Euroseeds has always supported the co-existence of all IPRs offering adequate protection for each kind of inventive activities in living matter and results thereof. Similarly, Euroseeds has always encouraged its members to facilitate licensing and to provide such licenses under fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) conditions.
We therefore supported the discussions around the establishment of a possible industry platform for agricultural crops, similar to the one already established for vegetables. Euroseeds now welcomes the formal launch of the ACLP and hopes it will play its part in fostering breeding innovation across the European seed sector.
