The labelling requirements of bags containing treated seeds are defined/described in Article 49 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/ 2009. Based on this, the label and/or documents accompanying the treated seeds shall include the name of the plant protection product with which the seeds were treated, the name(s) of the active substance(s) in that product, standard phrases for safety precautions as provided for in Directive 1999/45/EC and risk mitigation measures set out in the authorisation for that product where appropriate.

It should be noted that the above-mentioned phrases are developed for labelling of chemical products and hence not always suitable for labelling of treated seeds. Thus, Euroseeds developed a labelling recommendation that may be adopted by seed treatment sites on a voluntary basis in addition to the legal requirements.

The recommendation consists of extensive best practice recommendations in the language of the end user and an introduction of good practice pictograms that facilitate the creation of awareness among end users.
