A fertile ground for the production and marketing of plant reproductive material

On July 2023, the European Commission released a proposal aiming at modernise the existing framework regulating the plant reproductive material, defined by European Commission as ‘plant material (for example seeds, cuttings, trees, roots, tubers, etc.) used for the reproduction of other plants.’

What is the PRM legislation about? It’s a set of rules shaping the legislation with special regards to a fair production and trade of seeds, and other plant reproductive material, within the EU member states. The current framework sets the conditions allowing breeders to compete in a fair environment and farmers’ access to clean and top-quality seeds for producing improved plant varieties.
